Craft club

Cara and I are doing a craft club with year 6 children for the next 10ish weeks. This was our first creation!

 Discoveries

If you've been following me for the last few weeks, you'll know I've been trying out being gluten free. I've tried the other muesli by the same brand but this one kicks some serious butt! The coconut and cinnamon in it is sooooooo delicious!!

Long hair

Mainly due to the fact that it costs an arm and a leg to get a hair cut in London, my hair is getting pretty long now. I think this is probably the longest it's ever been, so it's perfect for fish tail plaits!

Winter

I'm really looking forward to winter this year! Crazy I know, but I have a new coat I've only worn twice, I've just bought this choice rabbit jumper to add to the collection, not to mention the surplus of scarves and hats I have - I want to wear them all now!!!!!

Sun surprises

There's been some mega fog in the mornings lately, so it was like a breath of fresh air to snap the sun rising!

Smoothies

When I was back in New Zealand I was having a smoothie nearly every day and the second day I was back in London, I invested in my very own blender! The plan was to make one each morning and take it to work for breakfast - that lasted two days! But after a quick trip to Sainsburys this morning, I had one delicious smoothie on my hands!

Colour-pops!

I bought this dress from Temt when I was back home and tonight it's getting its second outing! The dress itself I'm not a huge fan of, but those sleeves! They're the best part!

Home Sweet Home - Crafting Stuff!

I've had a slight dose of the crafty bug these holidays! There's so many ideas racing around in my head I either forget what I want to do, or don't get time.

The first thing was this pretty choice waterproof drawstring bag for a little man who turned 7. The idea was for him to use it for swimming or football and be able to wash it if needed. I wanted to make an animal but my fabric selection was very limited so I kinda made up a monster/dinosaur thing! 

I tried out making something 'proper' by using the Tunisian Crochet technique which turned out pretty rad. I found it hard to get one end straight, the stitches were like magic and kept multiplying or decreasing unknowingly! So these made up arm warmers are actually really warm and I think adding some embellishments will go down a treat! 

I then used the left over wool so make a quick slouchy beanie! It only took about 2 hours, fits perfectly and I think it looks pretty darn choice! 

Now, I've just bought six balls of some gorgeous wool, but cannot for the life of me remember what I was going to make. So if anyone's got any ideas about something crochetable on 27 hours worth of flying, holla!

Pork Sammies

There's a wee 'market' down the road from my house each Saturday. There's an array of organic, homemade, delicious goodness to be bought; however, these pork sammies are definitely the best £4 you'll ever spend in your life.

Miss fix-it

So I lost my balance when I was standing on my bed, grabbed onto my blind, then this happened...

So I tied it up with wool in the interim...

And then on purchasing a new blind from Argos (keeping in mind that it was only £7 so I'm not actually that bothered), it turns out that the difference between inches and centimeters actually really does matter.

Massive egg moment

Tunisian Crochet

My mum mentioned Tunisian Crochet to me the other week when we were skyping, so then and there I bought a set of hooks off eBay for a measly £3! I tried it out last night and it's actually pretty simple! It's essentially a cross between knitting and crocheting! Pretty bon choice if you ask me!

'Tis the season...

For caterpillars at our school! We got them delivered in little pots that had special food at the bottom. There were 5 caterpillars, who merrily eat their food, wiggle on up to the top where they make the cocoon, and then it's up to an adult with extremely steady hands to transfer them into their net, where we'll be able to see them hatch! You give them sugar water on flowers and they eat that for a bit, and then you can release them back into the wild! Choice!

Show and Tell - Crochet Creations!

Crocheting has this sense of satisfaction. I enjoy it more than knitting because I reckon the results are quicker. Knitting is still fun but I think it just takes ages to knit a scarf when crocheting one is a lot faster! 

I have a rule this year that my gifts I give are to be handmade and so far, so good! I found this super easy tutorial online to make crocheted flowers and it's been a huge success in my crocheting! 

I've made two necklaces, both slightly different, and my latest flower was made into a brooch. It's fun to pick and choose colours, make them two or three coloured flowers, I prefer three, and then turn them into something choice!

It was my Great Aunt's 90th birthday this week and I had no idea what to make her. She's 90, she has or had everything an old lady has! So I thought, a cute, handmade flower brooch was in order. Something small; something simple; something that had thought behind it; and as a bonus, it only cost me 90p to send to her! 

It was a perfect, quick project to use up those little bits of wool left over from other creations - you know that annoying amount when there's not enough to finish a row! Here's the finished product!

I snatched up this bad boy for £3! And it looks super choice with my mint green trousers!

Handmade gifts

I have a rule this year that the gifts I give are to be handmade. So far, so good, and we're already half way through May! I made Meghan this pretty choice scarf and this pretty choice necklace for her birthday; and I've just whipped up this wee crocheted flower broach for my Great Aunt's 90th birthday. Not the best pic, but you get the idea!

Egg Moments

I wrote a post about my 'egg moments' a wee while ago. Here's my latest 'egg moment'. Last weekend I bought these shoes for £5 instead of £20! Win! I walked to work that day, and on the way they were rubbing a bit. I thought nothing of it and put it down to my shoes being new. I went out on my lunch break and got caught in the rain, which proceeded to make my shoes very soggy. I took them off in the staffroom when I got back, to find all this soggy, shredded cardboard all through my shoes. A second later, after putting two and two together - I hadn't taken the cardboard bits out from inside before I put them in. Well done Nikki - massive egg fail. 

Turn-up songs

If you say it fast enough, it sounds likes turnip songs, then you really get people confused!

This is my latest turn-up song. You know the kind, where as soon as you hear it, the volume goes beyond what it should be, the body starts it's bopping or other dance move of your choice, and it's the best 3-4 minutes of your day.

Getting my craft on!

I've been on school holidays for the last 2 weeks, so it was the perfect time to get some gifts made for some special people's birthdays coming up! Loving being on the crocheting buzz!! The 'infinity/scoop' scarves all turned out a little bit different which makes me love them more!

I found and edited these 2 photos of my gorgeous cousins I took from the summer holidays last year!! I love how cute they are and how much I miss them!

Breakfasts/Lunches and sometimes dinner

I've definitely been on holidays mode and having really lazy mornings. Not sleeping properly has made for some very slow starts, with a massive coffee in order each morning! My two favourite meals I've made over the week! I've been using naan breads as pizza bases, topping it with my favourite ingredients, and they work a treat!

Trying new bars

I went to Graphic Bar the other night and being the keen gin drinker that I am, what was better than going to a bar that had over 180 different kinds of gin? Well! We tried these delicious gin cocktails that came in a big paint tin, with our very own paint tray to catch the drips! Very fun!

Books

I've also been doing a bit of reading over the last few weeks. I read this book by Johnny B. Truant called The Universe Doesn't Give a Flying Fuck About You (in the link you can read the book, it's just a short one!). It's short, it's truthful and honest, and really gets you thinking! I enjoyed it a lot; here's my favourite part!

My cousins' arrived back from their holiday with a goodie bag from Mum and Dad! So stoked about all the treats I got!!

Last weekend we went for a walk along the canal, as it was a lovely sunny and MEGA WINDY day! Photos will be up in a few days!

I think by now we all know my love for the sky! I'm loving London even more now that the clocks have gone forward and it's still light at 7.45pm!!

Hair-do's

I had my hair trimmed a few months ago, and prior to that I used to wear it in a plait nearly everyday. After the trim, the end of my plait looked more like a make-up brush, so it's only now when I can start attempting plaits again!!

Crafting!

I'm in the crafty mode at the moment and aiming to get a whole load of the years gifts made in the next week!  I crocheted the flowers for this necklace with my bare hands for my mother and then put it all together! Her birthday was at the end of January, it's now April, and it's still sitting on my shelf. Sorry Mumma, but it's your fault for peeking at it on Instagram!

Gifts

I'm a giver. I do like receiving too! I finished off the 2nd baby hat for my friend at work. Totally fell in love with how small they turned out and how cute they'll look on a wee babe's head!

Football

Last weekend I was lucky enough to go to the Arsenal vs Fulham game. The atmosphere was awesome! 

Walks

I love doing free things. I went on a walk last weekend near the canal. And the sun set, we got some beautiful shots, and Autumn is in it's prime.

Little play areas

We're doing Goldilocks and the 3 bears at the moment. It's a slow process to cover all the basics of the story (I plan on teaching the 1 book for 7 weeks... eeeeek!) But I love little role play areas for the kids. They absolutely love it and spend so much time there! 

My love for onesies

Onesies are amazing. Especially when you've come home from a long day at work, it's colder at night now, and you just want to put something cosy on. Boom. That's where the onesie comes in. I bought a new one which is sooo choice!! Yes, I did wear it to work for pj day. I'm choice like that! 

Bacon

Oh my. Bacon is definitely one of my favourite things. So what better than bacon flavoured popcorn? I can sense some noses curling up at the idea, but it was delish! It tasted like Rashuns!

Crocheting

I'm on a huge crocheting buzz at the moment. I feel like my Mum when she's in a fabric shop, but with wool. I spent too much time in John Lewis' today just drooling looking at wool, and came out with these puppies. Keep watch, as there may or may not be a giveaway soon!

Coffee

I had a coffee date with a friend who I hadn't seen in ages this morning. It was so awesome to have a good yarn over some amazing coffee! If you're in London, pop over to Speak Easy Coffee just off Carnaby St. Their soya flat whites are probably the best I've had in London so far!
