Turn Up Songs, Day 7

I hope you've enjoyed my last week of Turn-Up songs.

This is a special day for me. It marks ONE WHOLE BIG GIGANTIC YEAR since I've been in London!!!

This last song is one of my all time favourite songs!

I love Kiwi music.

I love 'old' music.

I love songs with feel good lyrics.

Bringing you ..... *drum roll*.......

Turn Up Songs, Day 6

This song is nice.

It's simple.

It makes you want to spin and be light and fly through the air.

It makes you want to sway side to side with a long flowy dress on in the sunshine.

It's Fidelity by Regina Spektor

Turn Up Songs, Day 5

This song makes me wanna get up and shake my booty!

It's fun!

It makes you feel good.

It makes you want to be able to move your hips like Shakira!

Here's Waka Waka by Shakira

You can youtube it and put Just Dance at the end of it. It'll come up with a version from some dance game! We dance along to it at work!

Turn Up Songs, Day 4

Today's song is beautiful. Pretty. Perfect. Amazing.

Covers seem to be the theme this week, but the last 2 have been amazing! And I have to share this one with you!

It's Wherever you will go by Charlene Soraia.

Turn Up Songs, Day 3

This song is crackers.

It's hilarious. It's lovely. It's arty. It's original. even though it's a cover...

This is Little Boxes by Walk off the earth.

Their covers are fab! They really make it theirs. My Mum introduced me to them, they have loads of stuff on youtube and facebook!

Turn Up Songs, Day 2

Today's song is Yellow covered by Eliza Doolittle.

She's an amazing singer and this cover is fun and beautiful. I ab-so-lut-ley am in love with this song.

It's fresh. It's fun. It's choice.

I've also just learnt it on the ukulele, which makes it even better!

Turn Up Songs, Day 1

You know those songs that you just have to turn-up? The ones your feet start bopping to, your head starts then you loose control of everything and become so engrossed in the music?

Well, I'm celebrating a week of that. When these come on on my ipod, who knows what's going to happen. I might be skipping down the street singing along, sitting in the tube when the dancing starts. You name it, it's probably happened.

Here's day one's song.

It's For a while by Stellar feat. Andy Lovegrove.

It's beautiful. The melodies, the lyrics, the whole feeling I get when I listen to it. Some of it hits home, some of it's irrelevant. Nevertheless, it's at number 1 on my list this week!

Friday Fun!

After getting a text from my flatmate Kayleigh saying "Don't leave work until you call me!", I wondered what was going on.

I then got a call from her saying "I'm outside your work, come and let me in". So we hung out in my class, she helped me finish off a display I was putting up, we hung around some more, went and walked down to the High St to kill some more time. She wouldn't tell me what we were doing, who was coming, or what this big surprise was.

Finally, all was revealed. Our friend had hired a car and we were on our way to Southend Beach.

It was such a choice surprise and a brilliant way to end the week!

We hopped in the car and drove for an hour (ish) until our destination!

We walked along the beach, went looking for crabs, and peered over the fence to look at the amusement park that was closed.

We played in a water fountain, went to the arcade and spent at least £5 on a 2p game, and ate fish and chips.

If the tide was in, I would've been in that water in my underwear in a flash. The impromptu trip to one of my favourite place, the beach, was just what I needed. That's what I miss about being in New Zealand, especially where my parents lived. We were a 5-10 minute walk to the river and it was like being in a whole new place. The beach was a bus ride away, there were bush walks very close. And it was all beautiful!

I now have a to-do list to complete. The order of things was in priority, but I decided to start from the bottom! Thanks Starbucks for the free WiFi!

Happy weekend everybody!

Note: I use the term beach, very very loosely. The tide was out, there was mud for miles, and no sand.

Bacon, my one true love.

I started to write a post on some of my favourite things.

Bacon was on the top of my list. And I feel like my life is now complete in a bacon-life-saving kinda way, after finding this website

It's so unnecessary, yet so necessary.

Read it and weep.

Why not send all your favourite bacon recipes in these handy envelopes?

As the caption on the website says. "It's where I store my money when I bring home the bacon"

Brilliant.

The trickery involved in these, is just plain ol' fantastic.

This is a bit weird. But look how glistening the fake bacon is...*salivation*

This one is all like "Ohhh, look at my belt. It doesn't look like bacon, but it's a subtle way of showing how much of a die-hard fan of you I am"

Oh sweet mother!

"Well the bacon has to come out somewhere..."

Right, I'm off to dream about bacon.

Things I'm Loving!

This week I'm loving...

♥ My 'net' ♥

The people who truly love and care for me, stepping in when they're needed most. The kind words have been essential in helping me cope. Thanks guys, you know who you are :)

I'm also loving this heart I got as a birthday gift from family friends

♥ My birthday ♥

Having a lovely tea party with a few close friends on my special day

♥ Getting gorgeous flowers from special people ♥

♥ And I'm loving bacon, pancakes, banana and maple syrup! ♥
Bacon is probably one of my most favourite foods - which is also why the photo is blurry; I was so excited to eat it!

My Nanna.

My gorgeous Nanna. I am so glad I have grown up with you in my life. I couldn't have asked for a better Nanna! I love our special bond that we had; calling each other up and instead of saying "It's Nikki" or "it's Nanna" it'd be "it's your favourite".

I love our weeks that we would spend with you during the school holidays growing up. We would indulge in some fun craft activities, or you would happily take us out for morning tea and be so proud of us, as your grandchildren. We'd go and visit your friends like Lil, that old lady Jessie who always got out a box of blocks for us to play with even though we were too old, your friend Gaye who'd take us in her car to places and your 'Young Friend Kim'.

I always loved how if we were lucky enough to do the supermarket shopping with you, you'd walk down the isles of New World Khandallah, saying hello to the people who worked there, who'd answer "Hello Mrs Barr". How cool was it that the people knew your name.

I loved it when you'd take us on the train into Johnsonville or even the city and Alice and I would squeal in delight as the train would go through the tunnels. You'd always tell us we were being a 'bit too noisy' but I think, secretly you wanted to join in.

I loved the time where me and Alice told you that we were going to be cats for the day. We lapped up milk and water that you had set out for us in a bowl, and tried to lap up rice bubbles but you coaxed us into using a spoon when they kept sticking to our lips and tongue.

I love how you would wear Red Door perfume and that smell will forever remind me of you.
I love how you would wear your 'inside out jersey' when we came around.
I love how you would only wiggle your ears on my demand; no one else's Nanna could.
I love your infectious chuckle that could put a smile on anyone's face.
I love how you'd sit through our 'concerts' that the 3 of us would put on, rehearsing before and after dinner, using your sun seat as our backstage.
I love how you made my Blue Rabbit a jacket and hat to make him 'look nicer'.

You have been such a delight in my life. I was sooo lucky to not only have you but three other grandparents in my life whilst growing up. You have all taught me what life is and how amazing it can be, despite what life throws at you.

Nanna, I will always always always love you. You truly were, one of a kind.

Birthday Celebrations!

This was such a special birthday. Me and 4 friends all sat around our table eating pancakes, scones, cupcakes, birthday cake, crumpets, biscuits; drinking tea, juice, and bucks fizz. Check out some snaps!

The surprise birthday cake!

Home made cakes! I made the scones with my own bare hands!

Everybody needs a cow jug yeah?

The Sky

Wrap your colours around my body,

Your palatte is delicious.

Seeping your way into my senses

And triggering them off in an erratic yet comforting fashion.

My eyes feast on your pinks and oranges.

My emotions feast on your beauty.

The beauty that is different,

Each morning or night.

Grab Meghan's button and love where you live!

All photos have been taken by me and no one is to steal them!
